Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria has been supporting the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD)
The Embassy of the Netherlands in Nigeria has been supporting the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) with their project ‘Strengthening Persons with Disabilities’ (PWDs) Advocacy Capacity in Nigeria’ since 2016. The project is aimed to ensure that organisations of PWDs have strong lobbying and advocacy capacity so they can contribute to a vibrant civil society.
Part of this project has been CCDs journey to fight for equal voting access for PWDs during elections. During the Ekiti Governorship elecltions, CCD trained and deployed persons with disabilities as election observers, and worked closed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make sure this becomes standard practice all across Nigeria. CCD has also played a key role in advocating for the National Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill – which was finally passed in January this year.
The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) will continue to fight for equalaccess during elections, and the full participation of people with disabilities in Nigeria every day. We are proud to partner with them.
