CCD APPLAUDS ANAMBRA BROADCASTING SERVICE ON NEW DIGITAL STUDIO
From: L/R: Mr. David Anyaele, ED Centre for Citizens with Disabilities with Mr. Uche Nworah , Managing Director Anambra Broadcasting Service
The Executive Director of Centre for Citizens with Disabilities, Mr. David Anyaele, has commended the government of Anambra State and the Management of Anambra State Broadcasting Service, for making their new Digital studio accessible for Persons with disabilities, noting that such is a rare feat in Nigeria.
David Anayaele, who made this known while on a live TV show at the station, applauded the duo for the inclusion of a ramp for wheelchair maneuvering for the physically challenged in its new digital studio and also re- emphasized the need for access for Persons with Disabilities.
He noted that access for PWDs depend on the kind of disability, according to him” access for a blind man means readable documents in braille, while to a deaf person, it means being able to communicate through a sign language interpreter, to a physically challenged, it means movement without any form of mobility barrier”.
He regretted that most stakeholders do not understand what access means to Persons with disabilities and this led to the launch of the Campaign for Equal Voting Access for Persons with Disabilities in Anambra recently, which is aimed at ensuring that Persons with Disabilities participate in electioneering processes at equal basis with others.
He emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to build capacity on disability issues so as to meet the disability needs of PWDs during elections in the country.
The disability matters specialist, David Anayele, also called for the review of the polling units in the country to ensure that they are accessible for physically challenged persons in the country.
Mr. Anyaele also utilized the opportunity to call on the Anambra State House of Assembly to pass the disability bill into law, as such would go a long way in strengthening the rights of persons with disabilities.
