Incoming event

The theme of DAW 2009 is ‘‘Nigerians with Disabilities: Our Role and Responsibilities in mainstreaming persons with disabilities in development programmes’’. Our goal is to enhance understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities and their families.

As part of our activities to mark this event which will last till Nov. 5, 2009, our organisation has chosen to have a technical session to discuss the following: climate change/disaster management and persons with disabilities, roll back malaria programme in Nigeria and the role of persons with disabilities; interactive meeting with National Orientation Agency; and interactive forum with leading political parties in Nigeria on party policies and Nigerians with disabilities among others.

Participants for the technical sessions has been selected from line ministries and government agencies, opinion leaders in the disability community, members of the civil society organisations, development agencies and the media, among others. It is expected that participants will articulate and make practicable recommendations on the task before disability organisations in the quest to mainstream Nigerians with disabilities in development efforts.

The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is an organization of, and for persons with disabilities that is committed to independent living, participation and social inclusion of Nigerians with disabilities and their families in development works. It was established in 2002 and incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja as a charity organisation. CCD is recognized by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, National Orientation Agency and National Agency for the Control of AIDS as a credible NGO working on disability matters.

However, Due to tight budget, we regret our inability to support participants’ transportation and accommodation for the programme as the technical session is strictly by invitation. This event is sponsored by Lilypond Container Services, Chisco Group, Victory Sanctuary-SDA Church , St. Leo’s Catholic Church, My David International Limited, BSN Guest House among others. The event is the sole responsibility of the CCD and can under no circumstances be regarded as reflecting the position of our sponsors.
